Install Andacious from Google Play. It runs a Linux desktop build of Audacity on Android, so you can record, cut, mix and apply effects with the real Audacity editor on your phone or tablet.
How to do it
- Install the app from Google Play. Search Google Play for Andacious by UserLAnd Technologies. It is a one-time purchase.
- Open it and let it set up. The first launch downloads and sets up the Linux files the app needs. Stay on Wi-Fi; this only happens once.
- Record or import audio. Audacity opens in a desktop window. Record from your microphone, or import a file from your Android folders.
- Use touch as a mouse. Tap with one finger to click, two-finger tap to right-click, pinch to zoom, slide one finger to pan and two fingers to scroll. Tap the screen and choose the keyboard icon to type.
What you get
- Record live from a microphone or mixer, or digitize recordings
- Fast editing: cut, paste and smooth volume mixing
- Noise reduction, tempo and pitch changes, equalizers and high- and low-pass filters
- Vocal reduction and isolation, plus distortion, echo and reverb
- Import, export and convert MP3, M4A, AIFF, FLAC, WAV and more
- Third-party effect plugins and a spectrogram view
What you need
- An Android phone or tablet with Google Play
- Free storage for the Linux files
- Internet for the first-time setup
- Optional: a Bluetooth or USB keyboard and mouse
Prefer free?
UserLAnd is free, and you can install Audacity in it yourself: set up Debian, choose Graphical, open a terminal and run sudo apt install audacity. Note that sound and microphone support in UserLAnd needs UserLAnd Pro. Andacious sets everything up for you in one tap.
Andacious is not Audacity itself and is not built or maintained by the Audacity team or Muse Group. It is a compatibility layer that runs a Linux desktop build of Audacity.
